Saudi Arabia’s mega-city NEOM plans to have its own dedicated airline. Arabian Business reported last month the US$500bn super city was considering its own carrier, following on from the country’s Saudia and the soon-to-be-launched RIA airlines.
A month on, NEOM’s own website confirms the plan. Under the website’s ‘Mobility’ section, it reads: “NEOM will be a highly vibrant tourist and business destination. The cutting-edge NEOM port will be the world’s first fully automated seaport, while a dedicated airline and seamless curb-to-gate experience at the NEOM airport will ensure a safe and efficient entry to the region.”
“We also want to take the pain points out. Travel has become slower and tougher, whereas most sectors have used technology to become quicker and easier. It’s arduous to get through borders and the pandemic exacerbated that. But we will make NEOM the easiest place to come to.” - Peter Fitzhardinge, marketing and sales director, NEOM
