The Financial Times reported today that the British government has extended an invitation to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to visit London. The visit is anticipated to take place in October or November. The government had sent an invitation to the crown prince, a British official told the newspaper, but the specific details were still being worked out.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and the crown prince spoke earlier on Thursday to discuss trade, investment, defence and security cooperation, according to a readout of the call issued by Downing Street.
"The Prime Minister and Crown Prince said they would continue working closely together to progress UK-Saudi cooperation and looked forward to meeting in person at the earliest opportunity," Sunak's office said in the statement.
It is not clear whether the prince has formally accepted the invitation yet but it is known that he does want to come to the UK.
