The NEOM Backbone Railway will provide regional and urban passenger transit and freight transport connecting the key regional areas and facilities such as The LINE linear city, OXAGON industrial city, airports and logistic transfer stations. SEMP was contracted in to NEOM Land Mobility (NLM) to provide Systems Engineering and System Assurance (SESA) services. The project is currently at the concept design phase.
NEOM, as part of its sustainability objectives, has recently announced Topian as its new food company. The company plans to focus on developing sustainable and innovative food solutions across five vertical pillars that include climate-proof agriculture, regenerative aquaculture, novel foods, personalized nutrition, sustainable food supply, and ESG. These efforts are aimed at supporting Saudi Arabia‘s Vision 2030, which aims to achieve food security, mitigate the effects of climate change, and attain net-zero emissions by 2060.
NEOM received prequalification applications from companies in December for a contract to design and build a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant. The planned water desalination plant will have a capacity of 150,000 cubic metres a day (cm/d).
Flying taxis are expected to be used in Saudi Arabia's major tourist sites and developments in the next years as the kingdom presses forward with its modernisation plans. The flying taxi will enter the market by 2026, and will be used in major protects such as the futuristic city of NEOM and the historic tourist site AlUla, Saudia Airlines announced on Monday.
NEOM has awarded a contract worth 20 billion riyals ($5 billion) to Italian firm WeBuild, to construct multiple dams at its TROJENA mountain resort. According to a report from MEED, the project will create an artificial lake at the centre of the development, with the main dam to be constructed at a height of 145 metres and 475 metres long at its crest.
