Project Update: THE LINE Hits New Milestone with World’s Largest Piling Operation

Giles Pendleton, Chief Operating Officer of THE LINE at NEOM, shared the latest updates on the project’s development. The team is currently undertaking the world’s largest piling operation, deploying some of the largest piling rigs globally. In Phase 1 alone, over 16,000 piles are being installed, including massive friction piles that are 2.5 metres in diameter, 70 metres long, and weigh up to 850 tonnes each.

Construction began in late 2022, and over 4,500 foundational piles were installed with more than 15,000 piles set to be installed. As of October 2024, officials confirmed that the first 5-kilometre stretch is expected to be completed by 2030, with full delivery set for 2045.

Design partners such as Delugan Meissl Associated Architects, Gensler, and infrastructure consultants Mott MacDonald are shaping the first phase, focusing on sustainability, modularity, and advanced urban planning.

THE LINE is being built as a global supply‑chain hub, featuring a 50 km² zone dedicated to advanced construction logistics.  The site includes areas for MEP storage, steel yards, a Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) yard, contractor zones, and specialised facilities.

These facilities consist of an area for Arca, PCYA2, general stores, a dewatering line, and a seawater flushing system, all carefully organised in the project’s master map.
