Saudi Arabia's futuristic $500-billion new city NEOM played host to nearly 150 design and construction companies who visited the project site over the last four days and held discussions with its top officials on future collaboration.
The meeting included an introductory session by NEOM aimed at demonstrating to the participants its ambitious vision and plans that support Vision 2030, and the ambitious direction of HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, towards building a better future.
NEOM is currently seeking contractors and investors for the giga project, which is located in northwest of Saudi Arabia, on the Red Sea coast. There was particular interest in NEOM's focus on innovation, Chief Projects Officer Brett Smyth noted. “We are serious about building NEOM in a completely different way and are steering the industry toward technological advancement, greater innovation, and efficiency,” he added.
Ayman Sejiny, CEO of the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD), which is affiliated with the Islamic Bank, said that the corporation was looking to provide financing and credit facilities, including Sukuk, for major Saudi projects such as NEOM and the Red Sea.
Sejiny stated that the Saudi government was the largest supporter of the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector. The CEO of ICD revealed that the Corporation aims to finance major projects in the Kingdom, especially new projects such as NEOM and the Red Sea.
ACWA Power, the energy producer backed by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, sees big opportunities in the hydrogen market but the company isn’t planning to add another hydrogen project to its portfolio for some time until its venture with NEOM and Air Products is at an advanced level, its CEO said.
Air Products, in conjunction with ACWA Power and NEOM, signed an agreement last year for a $5 billion venture to produce 650 tons per day of green hydrogen by heating water using renewable energy, as well as 1.2 million tons per year of green ammonia for exporting the hydrogen to the global market. The project, which will be built in NEOM, is scheduled to be onstream in 2025.
NEOM’s Corporate Social Responsibility department has launched its “You are the future” initiative in collaboration with the National Program for Community Development in the Regions. With this step, NEOM seeks to support and inspire the young students of the NEOM and Tabuk communities by equipping them with eco-friendly backpacks in preparation for returning to school.
This project is one of the series of social initiatives NEOM has carried out to enhance social welfare for the community. Through these programs, more than 400 scholarships were awarded to young men and women, of whom 150 were recruited by NEOM.
Billionaire Marc Lore has unveiled plans for Telosa, a $400 billion megacity to be built somewhere in the US desert with space for up to five million residents. Telosa is being billed as a new metropolis that will set “a global standard for urban living, expand human potential and become a blueprint for future generations”, with city planning focused on citizen involvement, equitability and sustainability.
Mr Lore, who was chief executive of Walmart's eCommerce from 2016-2021, has said Telosa is based on the concept of “equitism” - an economic system in which citizens have a stake in the city’s land.

After five years of spending cuts, the growing momentum of tender issuances from NEOM is good news for contractors. The US group Aecom was appointed project management consultant for the NEOM Bay development in 2019, months after Riyadh approved the establishment of NEOM as a joint-stock company, wholly-owned by the Public Investment Fund, to develop the project.
Saudi Arabia's mega project NEOM has invited bids for the construction of 31km of tunnels as part of THE LINE - a 170-km belt of hyper-connected future communities, without cars and roads and built around nature - at its $500-billion city project, according to a report. The tunnel project is a part of THE LINE’s infrastructure backbone. The deadline for submitting the bids has been set at December 30, said a report by GlobalData’s MEED.
According to GlobalData, the tendering activity for residential projects had also gathered pace in recent weeks with two tenders issued for one- and two-bedroom homes under the NEOM’s Community Expansion 3 programme. Also a separate tender was issued for 25 homes at NEOM Zero.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman at NEOM Palace on Wednesday, state news agency SPA reported.
The crown prince welcomed the Qatari minister, while Sheikh Mohammed conveyed the greetings of Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad to Saudi King Salman. Al-Thani also delivered a message from Qatar’s emir to the Saudi crown prince during the reception.
