The NEOM mega­city project is pla­cing a massive invest­ment on AI infra­struc­ture, along with part­ner­ship with major local data cen­ter developer Data­Volt, NEOM is devel­op­ing a 1.5-gigawatt net-zero AI com­put­ing cam­pus at its indus­trial hub, OXAGON, backed by an ini­tial $5 bil­lion invest­ment for the first phase of con­struc­tion. The project is expec­ted to begin oper­a­tions in 2028 and could ulti­mately become one of the world’s largest AI-focused data cen­ter com­plexes align­ing with the King­dom’s vis­ion for a sus­tain­able eco­nomy.

OXAGON is an innov­at­ive and dif­fer­ent from typ­ical cloud facil­it­ies by its design tailored spe­cific­ally for cut­ting-edge AI tasks. They are incor­por­at­ing high-dens­ity com­put­ing setups that run with renew­able energy, advanced cool­ing meth­ods, and eco-friendly indus­trial sys­tems.

This ini­ti­at­ive is part of Saudi Ara­bia’s Vis­ion 2030 goal, which seeks to diver­sify its eco­nomy away from oil depend­ency and pos­i­tion the King­dom as a global tech and digital infra­struc­ture leader.

The project also high­lights how the global race for arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence lead­er­ship is increas­ingly becom­ing a race for energy and com­put­ing infra­struc­ture with a focus on pre­serving, respect­ing and pro­gress.
