Hyundai Pioneers Hydrogen Mobility in NEOM

Hyundai Motor Group’s hydrogen mobility trial in NEOM’s TROJENA showcases sustainable transport solutions, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030 and advancing global decarbonization through innovative hydrogen technology.

The trial involved Hyundai’s UNIVERSE Fuel Cell bus, a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), navigating a mountainous route in TROJENA with gradients of up to 24 percent. This route simulated passenger transport from NEOM’s future core business district to TROJENA, demonstrating the vehicle’s performance in demanding conditions. The successful operation highlights the potential of hydrogen mobility in complex topographies, paving the way for broader adoption in sustainable transport systems.

Hyundai’s collaboration with NEOM began with an MoU in September 2024, aimed at integrating next-generation, zero-emission mobility solutions into NEOM’s smart city framework. Enowa’s recently installed hydrogen refueling station, the first in the region, played a critical role in enabling the trial. From October to December 2024, the UNIVERSE bus provided VIP transport, showcasing the practicality of hydrogen-powered vehicles in real-world scenarios.

Hyundai Motor Group, a global enterprise with approximately 250,000 employees, operates across mobility, steel, construction, logistics, finance, IT, and services. Its mobility brands—Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis—are driven by innovation and a commitment to a sustainable future. The Group’s efforts in NEOM reflect its broader mission to create a decarbonized world through advanced hydrogen technology.
