Saudi Arabia’s newest megaproject, THE LINE, created interest around the world when it was unveiled last month. Now, Saudis at home are being offered their first glimpse inside it at an exhibition in Jeddah. Makkah governor Prince Khalid Al Faisal said he planned to be the first to book accommodation in the megacity, in a clip of him touring the exhibition which has since gone viral.
The team at NEOM has already begun construction on Saudi Arabia‘s ‘zero-gravity’ city THE LINE. The group is reimagining how a city is built, and what sort of life is possible within its mirrored walls. The colossal scale of the proposal has never been seen and its concentrated proportions unheard-of. THE LINE is a rejection of the sprawling suburb and a hyper-exaggeration of the supertall skyscraper. Often referred to as a ‘groundscraper,’ the singular structure will stretch 170 kilometers — over one hundred miles — to house a city of nine million people.
Chinese contracting firm Powerchina has commenced piling works for the foundation of the super-tall towers in Saudi Arabia’s SR1.9tn ($500bn) NEOM development. The package awarded to Powerchina entails the drilling of cast-in-place piles with diameters of 1.5 and 2.5 metres, fabrication and installation of steel cages, and concrete pouring, excavation and chiseling of pile heads, and inspection of cast-in-place piles.
Saudi climbing enthusiasts in search of a “new high” have been gathering in the desert near NEOM to try out 100 new routes opened late last year as part of Rise 100, the Kingdom’s first climbing festival. The single-pitch routes have become a favorite destination for a fast-growing and tight-knit group of climbers and adventurers.
The Saudi crown prince, the second to the king, could be leading a delegation to South Korea in November for talks with the government and corporate officials with a focus on the ambitious desert megacity and nuclear reactor project.
MBC Studios, the production arm of leading Saudi media company MBC Group, has begun filming Rise Of The Witches – the biggest ever TV series to be made in the country. The 10-part adventure-fantasy series is being shot on purpose-built sets at NEOM, a $500bn megacity that is under construction in the northwest province of Tabuk, and holds the largest ever budget for special effects for a Saudi production, according to MBC.
Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) has unveiled discounts of up to 40 percent on its flights to many destinations in Europe and the US, in addition to select domestic destinations.
This promotion in implementation of its strategy aiming at connecting the world to the Kingdom, in addition to providing the opportunity for guests to enjoy their vacations in various regions of the Kingdom that are witnessing a movement in the tourism sector.
Saudi Arabia has signed 49 deals worth $925 million in the second quarter of 2022, as the Arab world’s largest economy continues to attract new investment into the country to diversify away from oil. The deals were signed across sectors including advanced manufacturing, construction and real estate, information and communications technology, tourism, entertainment and sports.
Under the auspices of Tabuk Gov. Prince Fahd bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the NEOM development company will host on Tuesday, in cooperation with residents, the “NEOM … The Future of Man and Place” forum at the region’s Prince Sultan Cultural Center.
NEOM has received bids for the construction of the spine water transmission infrastructure worth SR1.9 trillion ($500 billion) for THE LINE project. China Harbour Engineering Company and South Korea’s Hyundai Engineering are two of the companies that have submitted the bids.
NEOM, has taken over the management of the Northern Port of Duba, according to an official statement.
The Saudi Ports Authority (SPA), which manages sea ports in the largest Arab economy, decided to transfer “the management and operation” of the Port to NEOM as from Aug 1, SPA said in a statement carried by the Arabic language daily Alwatan and other Saudi publications.
