With a mammoth budget of $500 billion, NEOM is a key element of Saudi’s Vision 2030 plan originally launched back in 2016 as part of the kingdom’s mission to diversify away from its oil-dependent economy. Excavation work started this month along the entire length of the project.

The development has received its fair share of skepticism around feasibility, with a raft of articles in publications ranging from The Guardian to the Financial Times including commentary from architects who conclude the project is a pipe dream. Other critics note its carbon emissions among broader concerns.

Governments are under pressure to improve service delivery to citizens, as digitalization is radically transforming how people interact with the world, KPMG said in its latest publication, “Voices on 2030: Digitalizing government”.

The publication is based on interviews with the world’s leading public and private sector thinkers’ predictions of the world in 2030, focusing on challenges, successes and risks likely to be faced leading up to 2030. The Governor of the Digital Government Authority, Saudi Arabia and the CEO of NEOM have shared their perspectives with KPMG.

With competitors from over 25 countries, NEOM Beach Games will take place over six weeks from October 19th to December 9th 2022.  A global sports event, NEOM Beach Games features kitesurfing, beach football, mountain biking, 3×3 basketball and triathlon, the latter putting participants to the test with the disciplines of swimming, cycling and long-distance running.

Saudi Arabia's Al Moammar Information Systems Co. has won a contract from NEOM for a total of 58.18 million riyals ($15 million).

In a regulatory filing on Tadawul on Tuesday, the company said it will provide services related to research collaborations that will be  aligned with NEOM's stated aims in the field of emergent technology, cognitive computing, etc.

Located 50 kilometres from the Gulf of Aqaba coast, lies Saudi Arabia’s TROJENA – a snow-capped tourist destination, and part of the Kingdom’s megaproject NEOM. With elevations ranging from 1,500 metres to 2,600 metres, covering an area of nearly 60 square kilometres, the destination is set to be transformed ahead of the 2029 Asian Winter Games. Saudi Arabia is the first country in the Middle East to host the games, which will feature 32 participating nations.
