NEOM’s first luxury island destination Sindalah will play host to superyachts and top-end apartments, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman revealed as he announced the latest project set to boost Saudi Arabia’s tourism industry.  A main gateway to the Red Sea offering bespoke nautical experiences, Sindalah is expected to start welcoming guests to enjoy its exquisite facilities and exclusive offerings in early 2024. The development will likely create 3,500 jobs in the tourism sector and hospitality and leisure services.

Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund has secured a $17bn loan to help finance its push into the megaprojects that it hopes will diversify the kingdom’s economy from oil revenues. The seven-year senior unsecured loan was provided by a syndicate of 25 financial institutions in Europe, the US, the Middle East and Asia, the Public Investment Fund said on Wednesday. An earlier $11bn loan for five years that was arranged in 2018 will be paid off early, it said.

Sweden-based industrial solutions company Alfa Laval announced on Monday that it has been awarded a contract to deliver compact heat exchangers to the world’s largest green hydrogen plant under construction in Saudi Arabia. The facility, powered by renewable energy, is being developed by a joint venture of ACWA Power, NEOM and Air Products, and will produce 650 tonnes per day of green hydrogen when it starts operations in 2026, according to past reports by Zawya Projects and others.

Saudi Arabia on Monday announced plans for a new airport in Riyadh capable of eventually receiving 180 million passengers a year, as part of the kingdom’s efforts to diversify its economy away from petrodollars.  The airport will be named after 86-year-old King Salman and was announced by his son, 37-year-old de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).  The project is designed to cover 57 square kilometres, with the aim of accommodating up to 120 million travellers by 2030 and 185 million by 2050. The airport will be owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund, chaired by the crown prince.
