The Board of Directors of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Royal Reserve Development Authority, chaired by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, announced last Thursday the launch of the reserve’s Integrated Development Management Plan (IDMP).
The crown prince chairs the Council of Royal Reserves, and expanding royal reserves as well as protecting wildlife, promoting afforestation and supporting ecotourism was a major point of discussion in this week’s cabinet session held on Tuesday.
Given its 15 distinct ecosystems ranging from mountain ridges to coral reefs, plans include reintroducing native species, environmental conservation and setting a framework to develop and enhance ecotourism inside the region, including at Red Sea Global’s AMAALA tourism development, which is located within the reserve. By 2025, the plan is to have animals roam freely through an environmental corridor.
