Inside NEOM: Saudi’s bid to become Hollywood’s next filming destination

At NEOM’s state-of-the-art film facilities, Saudi Arabia’s mega-project is positioning itself as a major hub for international filmmakers, with dozens of productions already completed and more in the pipeline. Nestled just one kilometer from the Red Sea, NEOM’s sprawling media facilities represent Saudi Arabia’s ambitious push into the global entertainment industry.

During a tour with Al Arabiya English, the studios were buzzing with activity, with crews moving between sound stages and production offices.

In just four years since launching, the studios have hosted over 40 productions, attracting filmmakers from Hollywood, Bollywood, the Arab world, and Saudi Arabia.

“We’ve got two sets of film studios - one at NC1, and then we’ve got the studios at Bajdah, about an hour away in the desert,” explains Michael Lynch, Head of Media, Entertainment and Culture at NEOM, in an exclusive interview. “We’ve got a formidable offering for people making films, television series, and anything else that anyone might want to come at because of the unique attributes of where we are.”

The facility offers access to 468 kilometers of unspoiled Red Sea coastline, pristine reefs, lush valleys, vast desertscapes with sweeping burnt orange sand dunes, and in winter, snow-capped mountains.

The comprehensive nature of NEOM’s facilities sets it apart from competitors.
