Saudi Arabia is channeling billions into transformative mega-projects as part of an ambitious plan to position the nation for future global challenges. These projects are expected to reshape the Saudi economy, create countless job opportunities, and enhance quality of life.
One of the most iconic developments is NEOM, a futuristic city on the Red Sea coast envisioned as a hub for sustainability and innovation. With an anticipated investment of $500 billion (£386bn), Saudi leaders aim for NEOM to draw talent from across the globe to live and work in this next-generation urban center.
Launched by Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman in 2017 as part of the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative, The Red Sea Project is set to transform Saudi tourism. Upon completion in 2030, it will offer 50 hotels, 8,000 rooms, and over 1,000 residential units spread across 22 islands and six inland locations.
As of 2024, five resort sites are operational, including two inland and three island-based destinations. In May, Ritz-Carlton unveiled the Nujuma resort on the Ummahat Islands, where it joins the luxurious St. Regis Red Sea Resort. Known for its exclusivity, Nujuma has become the Middle East’s most lavish hotel, with nightly rates around £2,627, adding a new level of luxury to Saudi Arabia’s emerging tourism landscape.
